KMCO Group provides a wide range of services for telecommunications and information technology businesses, with a team of skilled operatives working throughout London, the Midlands, South England, and Ireland.
The company’s core services include cable and CCTV system installation, network audits, as well as cable splicing and termination. Recently, KMCO has expanded its expertise to include EV installation, with engineers visiting businesses and depots to set up charging points. All in all, this adds up to a hard-working fleet that sees KMCO’s drivers journeying far and wide to deliver their intelligent infrastructure solutions.
It’s no surprise that maintaining a safe and successful fleet is therefore a top priority for the business, with a strong emphasis on driver welfare and minimising environmental impact. This can require a lot of management, and it was for this reason that KMCO began to explore the potential of advanced fleet technology to take the hassle out of delivering a safer, more sustainable, and more efficient fleet.
Tried and tested
KMCO had been using a basic tracking tool in the fleet for some time, but knew they needed a more comprehensive solution. Lightfoot’s driver coaching and fleet management system had been highly recommended by numerous other fleets within the sector, and by KMCO’s insurer, Allianz Insurance, making it an easy decision to trial our award-winning platform.
The results from KMCO’s free trial showed just how much of a difference Lightfoot’s technology could make to the telecoms engineering fleet. By coaching the drivers in real-time, and incentivising better driving behaviour with rewards and recognition, Lightfoot was able to deliver fuel savings of 6.8% (equating to annual savings of over £21,000), an 82% drop in dangerous driving, and a 43-tonne yearly reduction in carbon emissions. This is especially important to KMCO, who act as Tier 1 suppliers for many of their customers and must show a commitment to reducing their carbon footprint to ensure their work aligns with the environmental goals of these organisations.
Driver engagement is also up since the rollout of Lightfoot across the KMCO fleet, with the team scoring an average of 91% every week against the Elite Driver target of 85%. This is the result of healthy competition amongst the drivers, who spur each other on to improve their driving performance and claim the top spot on the leaderboard.
Showing what’s possible
What really drew KMCO to Lightfoot was the variety of fleet data that our solution has made available to the team. Through the Lightfoot fleet management portal, KMCO have access to a personalised dashboard showing real-time information, including driver behaviour reports, vehicle maintenance reminders, and cumulative savings across fuel and CO2.
This has been such a game changer for the business that the dashboard is now presented on the communal screen within the head office, allowing everyone to see what can be achieved with a safer, greener fleet, particularly when it comes to reductions in annual fuel bills and emissions.
Speaking on KMCO’s experience of Lightfoot’s driver coaching technology, here’s what Terry Greenwood, Fleet & Assets Director, had to say:
“Lightfoot has been fantastic for getting our drivers to understand how to drive more safely and economically, and on the whole our drivers are a lot more engaged. They’re interested in the information Lightfoot is giving them, and they want to know more about what’s going on across the fleet.
They’re a competitive bunch too – there’s always banter over Lightfoot now between them, and that improves their driving scores, which improves our fleet, making it safer and reducing our emissions. When you think about it, it’s incredible how much of an impact that little box in the cab can have on the whole fleet, and it’s really made a huge difference to our business.”
