Scutum were first introduced to Lightfoot by their risk management advisor at Towergate. Managing risk has always been an area of concern for the Scutum UK fleet, as the safety of their drivers and other road users is absolutely paramount, but the team were finding that incidents of poor driving behaviour were becoming harder to manage. As the business grows and more fleet vehicles and drivers are onboarded, the potential for risk is expected to grow, so Scutum needed a future-proof solution that would help alleviate this by making safer, more considerate driving the norm.

The initial trial of Lightfoot in the Scutum fleet showed that this was not only achievable, but by quite some way. Instances of dangerous driving fell by an incredible 68% once the engineers began receiving the in-cab feedback, and the management team saw a huge uptick in driving performance, with many drivers going on to reach an Elite Driver score of 90% or higher in the weeks that followed.

By driving in a smoother way with Lightfoot, the fleet was also able to increase average MPG by 8% - estimated to bring almost £40,000 in fuel savings annually. This in itself was enough to justify the rollout of Lightfoot’s advanced driver coaching technology to the whole fleet, as it meant Scutum now had a cost-neutral solution with which they could effectively manage and reduce risk.

Now that Lightfoot has been deployed in the entire Scutum UK fleet, the full impact is really starting to be seen. Scutum are on track for a 50% reduction in annual claims, with the company’s drivers far more conscious of their vehicle handling and at much lower risk of being involved in an incident on the road. This is set to improve further, with Scutum soon to begin trialling dashcams in their UK fleet to help reduce risk all the more and exonerate their drivers.
